We can handle a large variety of file formats, including but not limited to:

• Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint
• Open Office documents
• Adobe InDesign
• XML, TTX and XLIFF
• POT/PO and JSON files

An open file format contains text that can be edited and extracted by our system. Software like Word, Excel, and even Adobe InDesign can generate open file formats. See the next question for why an open file format is important!

While PDFs (portable document file) are convenient for the exchange of documents across different operating systems, they are generally intended for viewing only. Every translation software has a very hard time handling them, and we can all enjoy a simpler (and cheaper!) translation process by working with open file formats.

Your translations are stored in a database. When you send us a new document, our system analyzes the whole thing and checks whether there are existing translations, which are called “matches”. There are four different types of matches:

1. Context match (110%)
2. 100% match
3. Fuzzy match (79 – 99%)
4. Fragment match
5. No match

You’re probably asking yourself how it’s possible to match something at 110%, right? Well, that’s because it’s a 100% match, and the context – the segment before and the segment after – is identical. So you can be sure this translation is absolutely correct.

A 100% match means that there is an existing translation, but the segment before and after are different. We still love them, though.

With a fuzzy match, the system calculates by what percentage these segments are different. The editor even shows you which parts of the segment are identical and which parts differ by highlighting them in different colors. And here’s the biggest advantage for you: We grant you a discount according to the fuzzy match interval for content that has already been translated.

CAT stands for ‘computer-aided translation’, which is a type of software used by every reputable translation agency. We know what you’re thinking but no, that doesn’t mean a machine translates your texts! CAT tools help human workers to create a standardized workflow which minimizes errors and maintains consistency in tone and terminology. As one example, CAT tools help us count the words and characters in your document so we can create an accurate quote or an invoice. But they can do a lot more! We can store all your translations in a database and re-use them if you send us new versions of the same document, or send us other documentation containing similar wording. This database is called translation memory (TM).

We do our work according to the dual control principle. Your text is translated by a professional translator who’s a native speaker of the target language and has extensive linguistic and cultural knowledge of the source language. One of our senior proofreaders will then closely proofread the translation, and, finally, the designated project manager carries out a series of QA check to make sure we deliver you the best product. Optionally, we are also happy to create a log in for you – that way you can up- and download documents directly, and also talk to us about adding a revision step (meaning that you or someone in your company can revise work directly in our system!).

Unless you need burnt-in subtitles, a smaller working version will do as long as the film is in the picture-lock stage. For subtitling, we prefer a video compressed with a high keyframe interval in an AVI or MOV container. Before we export your subtitle file, we’ll need additional information, like the aspect, resolution and, of course, the frame rate. Just tell us what you need the subtitles for and we’ll be happy to guide you through the video and subtitle format jungle!

Yes, absolutely! We can also adjust the file to different standards such as Interop or SMPTE or create subtitle files for several film reels.

You were expecting this answer, but: the price depends on various factors, such as the length of the video and what it will be used for. Rates for a commercial that is broadcasted nationwide will be higher than those for a short corporate film, even if they are the same length.
